An Assortment of Styles for Wall Lights

Wall lights, used for indoor and outdoor lighting, are installed on walls, using appropriate light fittings to get required level of illumination. There are different types of wall lights, the most common ones are the traditional lights with filaments, solar lights and energy saving LEDs. For modern lighting, LEDs are used and these are also the most preferred. These may have one, two or three bulb holders. Those with two or three bulbs are most appropriate for larger rooms and walls requiring high level of illumination. Usually, these come with translucent glass, ceramic, crystal or metal covers and shades and deliver mild illumination that doesn’t hurt eyes and also restrict generation of heat. These lights need wall fixtures for pointing light towards ceiling and are usually known as scones.

Indoor Styles

For indoor applications, we get quite a few styles, some of the popular ones include, corner, reading, spotlights, designer, surface mounted, picture, dimmable, nursery, kids' room, decorative and designer, LED wall lights and lighting at low level for use in staircases. It is the arrangement of the room and the activities to be performed there that decide the kind of lighting to be used. The present trend is to use scones in varying styles having traditional flower or leaf patterns. Contemporary lighting also uses scones with modern works of art.

Outdoor Styles

Lights meant for outdoor use are generally provided with tough lighting fixtures so that these can bear varying weather conditions such as rain, snow, sunlight and strong winds. The choice depends on the area where these are to be used. For example, those close to the patio generally have brighter light to help organizing dinners during summer time. Likewise, those at the entrance need to be bright, making it easy to enter or leave at night. Normally, solar or LED lights are employed for outdoor applications to save electric power. Contemporary fixtures are preferred at the entrance to the house as these give the house a stylish and appealing looks. It is also trendy to use colored lights that match the paint on walls. Some styles for outdoors purposes use domes made from translucent glass or stainless steel.

Solar and LED lights

Generally, people prefer using multiple light fixtures in rooms. Wall lights are utilized for efficient lighting of all four walls. That arrangement certainly increases the consumption of electric power. So, it is desirable and practical to use solar or LED lights for this purpose. Both the types give efficient lighting and reduce utility bills. LEDs are better known for delivering brighter light and producing very low heat. LEDS light are also most suitable as spotlights and wall mounted reading lights because they deliver focused light. Solar lights can also be used for indoor lighting. In that case solar panels are installed outside the house and power is withdrawn using cables which get connected to lighting fixtures.
